Kamil Mroz (PitR 2006), upon returning last fall from an international exchange in South America, thought about the PitR network and decided it should be expanded. He came up with the idea of organizing a conference at the Lord Elgin Hotel in Ottawa for university students, recent graduates and young professionals. Scheduled for the weekend of May 1-3, 2009, the conference will comprise workshops and discussions, and feature distinguished speakers including the Polish Ambassador, Dr. Piotr Ogrodzinski, the Minister of Multiculturalism, Jason Kenney, and Officer of the Order of Canada, Tom Brzustowski. Also attending will be several leaders of the Polish community from across Canada and some members of Parliament.

The conference will open on Friday evening with a plenary session at the University of Ottawa, with workshops and other sessions on Saturday and Sunday at the hotel and the University of Ottawa Campus.  Saturday evening, participants are all invited to attend “An Evening in Poland,” a special reception hosted by the Polish embassy, followed by A Night on the Town in the Nations’ Capital.”

Kamil’s team, all members of the Polish Students Society of the University of Ottawa, have been joined by Professor Richard Sokoloski, Associate professor in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at the U of O.

All the ingredients are there for a superb event.
